Motorhome Alternator Replacement

2001 Country Coach Intrigue

While on our way from Train Town to Redmond, Oregon the alternator on our motorhome started acting up. It was charging at 12.1 volts instead of 13.5 to 14 volts. After we arrived in Redmond I loosened the alternator belt and theΒ  alternator didn’t spin freely. This confirmed that the alternator needed to be rebuilt or replaced.

I had the alternator rebuilt just 3 1/2 years ago, which didn’t last long enough, so I started a search a new Leece Neville A0012824LC 160amp alternator. I found a NOS Leece Neville A0012800LC on eBay. (Just under $200.00 πŸ‘πŸ‘) The info I could find said it was a direct replacement, but the wiring was different. I took a chance and bought it. I remembered what a pain it was last time, but by removing the alternator bracket it was not such a hard job.

Comparison

I was worried about the wiring, but the replacement alternator was self exciting, which meant I only had to hook up the ground and positive cables. This was a nice unexpected improvement. I was thankful that it worked and the job was done 🀠

All done πŸ‘
