Alert Academy

We finished our project at Alert Academy yesterday. Here is a little information from their website:                                                                                                                           “The Air Land Emergency Resource Team: Forging extraordinary men who influence their world for Christ.”

TEAM                                                                                                                                  Forging extraordinary men who influence their world for Christ.

It’s time to leave the everyday behind. You’re on your way to becoming more – more capable, more driven, more equipped, and more fired-up for God’s kingdom than you’ve ever been. The ALERT Academy provides its men with a fine-tuned combination of Christian discipleship, community service, and career training that you won’t find anywhere else on the planet. Around here, “ordinary” isn’t on the agenda.

This program is for men 17 + years old. We did not work with them be we ate with them in the cafeteria. They were all very polite and engaging. It was always yes sir or no sir.

We were serving here with 12 other couples, the biggest group of SOWERs we have ever worked with. This campus is 2200 acers, with more building then they can keep up. We were split up into teams and groups to work efficiently an get many tasks done. Ann along with 3 other ladies worked in the sewing room. She sowed on badges, changed stripes(their rank of accomplishments) and did repairs on the young men’s shirts and pants.

I worked with Doug and Gary most of the time. Our biggest job was to repurpose one  of the many bath houses. Alert Academy is set up for hundreds of campers. Everything from full hook up to primitive camping. There are way more bath housed then they need. We took out all the partitions, Toilets, urinals, sinks, shower faucets, and mirrors in number 1412. We removed lots of porcelain! A big project for SOWERS was to add sewer connections to over 40 electric / water RV sites. This was a giant undertaking and I helped out on that crew part of the time. Most of what I did was helping back fill around the 4″ sewer pipe and to rake out the sites after they were filled in. Working with SOWERs is great. So many couples with different talents, serving the LORD together to help out the HOST.  We will be leaving here with many new friends. Here is a link to my Alert Academy photo album.

But first, we are staying till April 4th. The SOWER 40th Anniversary Rally will be here at Alert Academy from March 30th to April 4th. It will be exciting here as there are over 100 SOWER couples and around 18 Hosts attending! (The HOST are representatives from camps we serve) There will be games, seminars, food and lots of fellowship. We are looking forward to a great time!

On the 4th, after the Rally we will be heading to Sermon on the Mount in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
