Calvary Commission

We usually report to our SOWER Projects on Thursday or Friday. But because of the Ice Storm, downed tree branches, downed trees and power outages we took the 11 mile trip to Calvary Commission on Saturday morning. We are glad to be volunteering with our good friends, Bruce and Katie.

Calvary Commission is a Christ-centered organization with special emphasis in the areas of prison ministries.

Program Areas of Calvary Commission are:

*To provide Christian aftercare programs to those released from prison. To provide christian education programs and support to those with life controlling problems. Provide continuing education as a bible college
*To train and support christian missionaries in the united states, mexico, romania and peru
*To staff and manage an orphanage or religious services in Mexico, India, Peru Guadalajara and Cuba

Only one percent of those who complete the aftercare prison program return to prison.

And what are you guys doing you might ask.  The main task is to make progress on the remodel of a double wide manufactured home. At first we were asked if we would paint the exterior and told we could go check it out.  On inspection it needed lots of work before we could paint it. A metal roof was added sometime back but they sealed around the fireplace chimney with duct tape, that might have lasted till they left. It rains a lot here, we could stick our hand through the facia board and the siding below the chimney. We have sealed around the chimney, removed the siding and replaced one stud that was 80 percent rotted out. We are also working with Ann and Katie on fixing things up on the inside. As SOWERS we try and practice flexibility, cause we are here to serve and we never know what that will entail. The cook was going to be gone so they asked Ann and Katie if they would consider  preparing the Thursday evening meal for 70 people. With the help on Madi, one of the girls here they prepared a great dinner. We have completed one of our three weeks here and it has been great. The staff and students are so thankful and a joy to be around. Again we are Blessed as we let GOD work through us to be a Blessing to these people and this ministry.
