7 days 1700 miles

Last year we signed up to do a couple of SOWER Projects in Texas for 2023, our first one starting February 3rd. With all the winter storms and cold weather, we were concerned about traveling from Idaho. No matter which way you go from the Boise Area, there are at least 7,000 foot high snow covered mountain passes you have to go over. We did travel many miles at elevations of over 7,000 feet with single digit temps.  We woke up to temperatures in the teens each morning. All that being said, we were thankful each day for safety and good travel days.

Along our way, we spent a night at Ann’s Friend from Jr. High in Farmington, NM. What fun spending time with life long friends.  We visited some cool sites along the way. Arches National Park where we enjoyed seeing all the beautiful land formations covered with snow and I was able to add another stamp to my National Parks Passport Book. We stopped for pictures at the midway point of Route 66 and Cadillac Ranch,  and since we were spending the night in Amarillo, we went to the Big Texas Steakhouse. This is where if you eat a 72oz steak and all the trimming’s in one hour it is free, otherwise $72.00.  We had watched  Keep Your Daydream on youtube take the challenge, and it was fun to be there and see it. We just split a steak and we couldn’t eat it all. We did order a piece of Carrot Cake to take home and it was TEXAS SIZED! It was a long but good trip. We arrived at the SOWER Office RV Park yesterday, and it rained for the last 20 minutes of the drive. The weather forecast was for Freezing Rain, we only had rain. I am originally from California, we don’t know about Freezing Rain and Ice Storms. These storms cause lots of damage and including power outages and road closures. Check out the pictures of the ice on our vehicles and the google maps picture of the Road Closures in Dallas. These closures are because of the ice.

We are thankful that we are parked here till the end of the week, then it will warm up and we will report to our next SOWER Project at Calvary Commission.
