The Countdown is on

We closed on our house just 3 months ago. Just as we are feeling fairly comfortable it is time to leave. We have a signed up to volunteer at Calvary Commission in Lindale Texas with arrival date of February 3rd. If we can go the direct route it is just short of 1,700 miles.

Trip planning is always interesting. Do you go straight to your destination? The shortest route? Easiest route? Are there places or people I want to see along the way? Should I follow Google Maps directions?? This app might show you the fast way to go, but isn’t designed for 40′ motorhomes towing a car and sometimes route you on roads we can’t drive on. We use RV Life Trip Wizard and my Garmin RV GPS. I put in how long our coach is and what it weighs and they are pretty good about planning a safe way to go. The picture above shows the trip wizard map for this trip. Being winter we have to consider weather this trip. This has me a little concerned, so I also use the 511 Road Condition Apps for each state. Some of these apps even show the location of the snow plows.  Here are links to some of these:

I think that you can find these Road Condition apps for each state. I use these all the time. Check them out for your state or for the states you will be traveling in.

All this to say, for us the count down is on. We will be using all these resources to decide when we will leave and what route we will take. And as always we will be asking the Lords direction in all we do.

Psalms 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

  1. Safe travels. If you get a chance visit Novasota and CollegeStation, Texas. Great leather store in Novasota and nice people. College Station has Bush Library. Blessings as you volunteer.
