First Exploration of 2023

We have been working on getting settled into our new home and today was time to do a little exploring. We headed south, our destination was Swan Falls. About 10 minutes south our our house we rand into this traffic jam. This is Open Range and there must have been 1,000 sheep crossing the road!  It only took about 5 extra minutes as the grass must have been “greener” on the other side of the road.

The Swan Falls Dam was the first Hydroelectric Facility on the Snake River, built in 1901. It is located way down in the gorge. It is awesome both looking down from the top and looking up from the river.  When you get to the bottom there is a very nice day use area (with the cleanest public restroom I have ever seen), fishing dock, boat ramp and 20 dispersed camping sites. I can’t forget the Idaho Power Hydroelectric Plant.  It was fun to explore the area and check out the camp sites. On the way home we talked to some Open Range Cows and stopped by the Point Fire Memorial. This is in Memoriam of two volunteer firefighters who were killed in the Point Fire. We had a fun afternoon exploring, here is a link to more pictures.
