DMV

Department of Motor Vehicles has never conjured up pleasant thoughts to me. I just think of long lines and unhappy people.  When we took up residence in South Dakota, getting our drivers License was a breeze along with getting our vehicles registered.  Even though SD was a great experience, my memories of California were still strong in my mind, so I was not looking forward to going to the DMV here in Idaho.  A few weeks ago we pulled into the DMV office in Boise that does vehicle registration with our motorhome and car in tow. We stopped in without a appointment and still I only waited a few minutes to get called to a window. In Idaho they do a physical VIN check and even with that we were all done in a half hour. I thought it would take more than one trip to get it done, but no, I just paid the fees and we went home to wait for the license plates to come in the mail. This did take about three weeks.

We still put off making an appointment to get our new drivers license’s. I knew we would have to take a test, and I have a CDL (Commercial Drivers License) so I was thinking I would have to take a lot of tests. We made our appointments for the next day. We did some online practice test and figured we would give it our best. The Meridian DMV is  really nice and staff was helpful and pleasant. When we checked in they sent us to the same window, which made it a lot easier. As we had to show 2 forms to prove we lived in Idaho, Passports and etc.  Then she said,  I only had to take the general knowledge test. That is 40 questions which you have to get 34 correct, you can miss 6.  We both passed and all my CDL endorsements  transferred over. I still have my doubles, triples, tanker and passenger endorsements! I don’t think I will ever need them, but I have had them since I was 18 years old.

It has been a lot of work getting everything transferred to our new residence in Idaho, but everyone from the bank, the gas company , the power, City of Kuna and now the DMV have been very nice and accommodating. We are starting to feel like Idahoans.
