Winterize

For the first 66 years of my life in Central California Winterize didn’t mean much.  The temp seldom got down into the high 20s. We would check the Anti Freeze in our vehicles and hope the out door plants didn’t freeze.

That isn’t the case anymore. Over the last three years, while spending the holidays with our kids, we got a little taste of cold weather.  I would  work to keep the motorhome warm and water system from freezing. I even helped Ryan shovel snow a few times.

Winterize has a bigger meaning now. We payed to have our sprinkler system blown out this year! What is that you might ask. They take a big air compressor and blow the water out of the Sprinkler lines so the water doesn’t freeze in them and break the lines.  We haven’t been here long and I have already shoveled our driveway and sidewalk twice. I can’t let the water systems freeze in the Motorhome either.  I bought a Air Compressor. Hooked up a air line to the fresh water inlet of the motorhome, opened the faucets and blew out all the water. Then I drained the water tank, grey and black tanks.  I even dumped the P Traps. This was a opportunity to clean them out.  I guess I will know how well I did when we fill it up with water next year.

Some of my California friends have never heard of such things, while some friends in other parts of the country get way colder and worse weather then we will in Idaho. We are learning to live in a new area and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation that comes along with it. I hope that you all can do the same, where ever your live.
