Great Platte River Road Archway Monument

In Kearney Nebraska is this archway that spans all the way over I-80. Inside the archway is a museum also a motel on the north side along with a gift shop. This is close to where the original Oregon, California and Mormon Trails converged after leaving Fort Kearney. The fort operated from 1848-1871 and the reason for the fort was to supply the travelers.  We took the self guided audio tour and it is very well done and informative.  Click here to see more pictures.

Check one of the last photos.  It was good to know that the bottom floor was Tornado Safe. Being from California we think of earthquakes, not Tornados.
