When we arrived at the Scatter Joy Acers we were met by a volunteer named Dean. As we talked we discovered he was Danish. He recommended going to the town of Elk Horn, Iowa and checking out the Museum of Danish America. We took his advice and we are glad we did. The first stop was the Windmill, this was taken apart in Denmark and reassembled where it stands. There was a welcome center with all kinds of Danish things to buy. We did buy a few things:-) We had a nice lunch in the only restaurant open, “Grace on main”. We even found Bedstemor’s House. The grandkids call Ann Bedste, short for Bedstemor which means Grandma. We finished our tour of Elk Horn and the Museum of Danish America. There is also a Danish Genealogy Center we would had gone to, but is closed on Sundays. It was a very enjoyable side trip.
