We are heading home, as usual, in a roundabout indirect way. My truck driving past tries to take over, but I am trying to hold myself back and see friends and special sites along our path. That means under 300 miles a day, at least that is the goal.
We decided to spend one night in Medora, which was only 60 miles from Dickinson, ND where we spent the previous night. Almost five years ago, we saw our first Buffalo, (officially Bison) at Teddy Roosevelt National Park and we wanted to go back. Along the scenic drive, one of the first things you come to is a Prairie Dog Town, with thousands of prairie dogs, this time there were also lots of tiny babies running around too. We had seen lots of Bison at a distance, but it was like they stationed one all by itself for pictures. It just stood there eating letting everyone take it’s picture. A little later in our drive we met two wild horses coming down the road. As everyone does when you see wild life in a National Park you just stop and take pictures. We stopped for the horses and they almost posed on the top of the little hill for us. It is really neat to see God’s creation, both in the wildlife and landscape. Truly Amazing.
We stayed at the Red Trail Camp Grounds, we would recommend staying there if you are going to camp in the area. Before we left the campsite, I received special instructions via the “pay Phone” which now cost 35 cents!
We left North Dakota and entered Montana today. 286 miles. We are spending the night at the Cabela’s in Billings Montana. They have about a dozen pull through parking spots, where you can stay for 24 hours for free. We we did go shopping, so it wasn’t really free.
