Quartzsite

The Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show, know as the Big Tent. The description is correct, the tent is over 74,000 square feet in size. It is filled wall to wall with vendors. Might I say that there are vendors all around the outside too! Then there are RVs for sale too! Now the Big Tent isn’t the only thing going on in this area, but they have the Big Tyson Wells Sell-O-Rama going on too. It is like a big giant swap meet on steroids!! Might I say that finding a parking spot isn’t easy.

We are Boondocking on Plomosa Road on BLM Land. Just incase you don’t know what Boondocking is, it is camping without any hookups. We arrived with a full fresh water tank, and empty Black (poo) tank and Grey tank. We also rely on our solar panels and generator for power. We are on our seventh day and still have two more days to go before we can leave. This is the longest we have ever boondocked.

One of the reasons that we came to Quartzsite was to get our motorhomes awnings recovered. They have been in need of replacement for a long time. We made an appointment with Shade Pro. They came out and took our 3 Zip Dee awnings off, because they send the awnings back to their shop in Spring Valley California to be recovered. For the two Girard Awnings they just took measurements.

On Monday they came back to install them. It was interesting to watch. But after the two smaller Zip Dee awnings they realized that whoever had done the work in the shop, did it wrong. Off they came and hopefully they will be correct when they come to re-install them tomorrow. This delayed us a couple days and we still have almost 1200 miles to go by February First. We are praying they did it right this time.

Our thoughts on Quartzsite.

For Ann and I is was really neat to connect with some of the vendors that we have done business with.  It was interesting to see some new things, but none that we needed.

We did get to meet and talk to one of the couples that we follow on YouTube. Jim and Kellie from Suite Travels.  They share their travels in their Heavy Duty Truck, hauling a Smart Car pulling a big Toy Hauler. Check their channel out.

We also enjoyed some wonderful Cinnamon Rolls. We first tasted these many years ago at the Big Fresno Fair. They were great!

We also learned that in Quartzsite the washes don’t mean going to the laundry. The Washes is where the water runs when it rains. It doesn’t take much to have water sitting and making those dry low spots fast running water.

It has been surprisingly peaceful boondocking out here among thousands and thousands of campers. Around us it has been really quiet and dark at night.  We have even been able to stream a little YouTube with our AT&T hotspot, which also surprised me.

We would be open to coming back to Quartzsite again, but maybe with friends next time.

And last, I learned to spell Quartzsite!
