We were scheduled to arrive at Living Waters Bible Camp on Friday morning, July 29th. We try to spend the night before arriving at a SOWER project close to it, this time we were only 2 miles from our project at a Harvest Hosts, First Settlers Lodge. While exploring the area we stopped by Living Water Bible Camp to see what our sites looked like (so we would know what to expect the next day). We were not too excited when we saw that they were putting in a temporary PVC sewer line, the water came from a water hose from who knows where and power would be an extension cord from over 75 feet away. To top that all off we would be parking on a lawn that would take some creativity to find an almost level spot. With that “positive SOWER attitude” we left there telling them, “no worries, we will work it out.”
But back at the First Settlers Lodge we wondered how in the world would we make this work for 3 whole weeks??? I even asked, should we turn south or north when we head out in the morning? We did turn north and arrived at Living Water Bible Camp mid-morning. It took a while to decide where to park and get set up. Over the next day or two they made the temporary sewer more permanent, which was a great improvement because it is hard to make that stuff run uphill. I ordered another 20amp extension cord and dog bone, so I have 20amp power to my coach. A couple years ago I added lithium batteries and solar to our coach. This has helped us tremendously here.
Even with this crazy start, this is the place GOD wants us to be. Right from the beginning, sending the right people with the right RVs to make the sites work. We are working with a team of 6 couples total. He brought each one of us here for a reason. We are working together to help and encourage the staff and camp.
Check out the picture that Bruce took from his drone. This shows the camp, the top of the picture is Canada and the center bottom is our coach. Gods beauty is all around us. The camp sits on Grand Lake. It is a beautiful place for a summer camp. This camp has been here over 52 years providing a place of spiritual renewal and refreshment for people of all ages. Pray for the kids here and across the country as this is the last week of camp before school starts.
And what did you do this week? The gals are either painting cabins, helping out in the kitchen or working in the office. A couple of the guys are doing all kinds of repairs and improvements and I am on the team that is building a cabin, from the foundation up. This is a new experience! Here are pictures of the construction.
