Rufus Landing is an Army Corps Recreation area along the Columbia River. It is located east of Biggs Junction near the little town of Rufus. The John Day Dam is about a mile upstream.
They allow boondocking (camping with no hook ups) and there are no designated sites.
You might see fishing boats, tugs pushing barges, BNSF trains on the Washington side of the river, Union Pacific trains behind you, and it is a very popular place for all kinds of wind surfing.
This has become one of our favorite boondocking locations. It isn’t very windy and there is not much action on the water, but it sure is peaceful.

We will be heading down highway 97, away from the river tomorrow.
