Tombstone was just 25 miles off our route. I did some research and found that there was a Harvest Host just a couple blocks from Allen Street, which is the main dirt street lined by all the shops, theaters and restaurants. I sent in the Harvest Hosts request to stay there. When we rolled in, we had only planned to stay night. The Host, Leann, met us and started telling us about all the things we could do in Tombstone and the surrounding area, so we decided to stay an extra night. Leann and John are one of the very best Harvest Hosts Host we have encountered. We highly recommend the Third and Survey Shopping Society Harvest Hosts in Tombstone AZ.
We enjoyed taking a couple of the self guided tours and learning the history of those crazy wild days in Tombstone, including the gun fight at OK Corral. Tombstone must have at least four different companies doing reenactment’s of the famous gunfight at OK Corral. They all had Cowboys out in the streets enticing you to come the their show. There are also Stage Coach tours, Trolley tours, Silver mine tours, and the list goes on. Tombstone has different events going on all the time. We kept it simple (and a little cheaper) and did a couple self guided tours. We toured the Bird Cage Theater. This is where the longest Poker Game occurred. This game lasted over 8 years. The buy in was $1,000.00 and this was in the 1880s. This is also where the “Soiled Doves” would entertain the patrons for $25.00 per night. It was a real theater, where entertainers would sing or dance . We also toured the Historic Courthouse, enjoyed walking down the wooden sidewalks and checking out the shops. We picked up a few gift items. If you are in the area, it is a fun Town and area to check out. Our Harvest Hosts site was really quiet and we had a couple beautiful sunsets right out the front window of our coach. It was a great stay in Tombstone. Here is the link to our Tombstone Album.
