When we bought our motorhome in 2016 it had beautiful looking Michelin Tires on it. The only problem was that they were 9 years old. I am sure that they had very few miles on them, as the motorhome only had 44,500 miles on it and they had to be the second set of tires. It was a nerve racking trip home from Las Vegas in 90 degree weather, where we purchase it. We replaced those Michelins before taking the motorhome on it’s first trip.
I replaced the front tires a couple years ago. The drive tires were eight years old. They had traveled in 48 states. Some nice smooth roads and some awful roads, and believe it or not many gravel roads. Yes we have taken the motorhome on some crazy roads. They had gone over 63,000 miles but still had about half the tread left. They had aged out! It was time to get them changed before we head out on our next big adventure. There is a Commercial Tire shop a couple miles from our house. We made an appointment and took it to them. We figured we would give the Coach a Big Christmas present, a present that would give us peace of mind.
As they were removing the inside lug nuts one of them broke. Compare the red arrow broken one to the green arrow. The guys at this shop had not had this happen to them before. Me, being the old guy whose first career was trucking had had this happen before and we had struggled to get the nut off, before getting the right tool and experience. I told the guys at the shop that there was a tool for this. They made some calls and found the tool. It was a cheap tool and no matter how hard they tried to hammer it on, it just wouldn’t go. They tried and tried again, but didn’t make any progress. In their calls I heard that they had an employee at a different shop with lots of experience. I went and talked to the Shop Manager, told him they were not making any progress just bring in the guy with experience and he agreed. I went to lunch with Ann. When we got back it was fixed. It took the experienced guy with the right tool just two hits and he spun the nut right off. I compare this to life, we beat our heads on a wall trying to fix something instead of calling on the one who made us, loves us and wants the best for us, when we can just call on HIM for peace and direction. Psalms 32:8 cheap
Because of the extra work getting the nut off it took about five hours instead of a couple hours. I have to say that the guys at the Commercial Tire in Kuna, ID did a good job. It was finished up in time to get the coach home and parked before dark. It needs a little more attention and then we will be off on our next adventure in January! Stay tuned.
