Since we left Dodge City we have been on the Kuna Trail. This is different then the Chisholm Trail, Oregon Trail or Great Western Trail. These trails ran in the mid 1800’s. Hundreds of Thousands used the Oregon trail, in Prairie Schooners. The history of these trails is really interesting. So many traveled the Oregon Trail that the ruts from the wagons are still there. We are in our motorhome and The Kuna Trail is the going home trail. We are taking our own turns and path but will be on the trail with many other people stopping at interesting places along the way.
After we “Got out a Dodge” we headed up to Sidney, Nebraska and stayed in a Cabela’s RV Park. Along the way we stopped by the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center. This is where Buffalo Bill got his nick name by killing 69 Buffalo to win a bet. (We also fueled up our rig for only $3.06 per gallon with our Open Roads Discount Card.) We Checked out the Pony Express Monument that is at the entrance to Cabela’s and did a little shopping there. We took a day trip to see Chimney Rock and Scotts Bluff. Both of these were sign posts along the Oregon Trail, Great Western Trail, Mormon Trail and Pony Express. At Scotts Bluff we visited the visitors center and took the scenic drive the top of the bluff. This 1.6 mile drive features scenic views and the only three vehicular tunnels in the state. It is cool that they have a couple Prairie Schooners staged along the Oregon Trail. Check out the album for our Kuna Trail adventure.
