This was our 10th SOWER Project. We are in Weston Maine, almost as far east as we can be in the United States. This project had a shaky start, with the make shift, find the most level spot, RV sites. Temporary Sewer, extension cord for power and a long water hose supplying our RVs with water. We are 40 minutes from a grocery store (of any size) or restaurant. All that being said, GOD wanted us here and we have been Blessed volunteering at Living Waters Bible Camp this month. We were six SOWER couples at this project. Six couples with the right experiences and abilities for this project.
There were three of us put on what I call the “Build Team”. David, Bruce and I. We were assigned to build a 30′ x 26′ cottage. We started with a very nice foundation, some piles of lumber, buckets of screws, our DeWalt power tools and a two pages of drawings. We started by building a stub wall, the floor joists, the floor, build the walls then lifting them into place, frame the doors and windows and etc. I learned so much, including how to be more accurate in my measurements. The picture of David with his retractable pencil and I with my big framer pencil shows the worlds we came from. The 3 of us, with occasional help, were able to go from the bare foundation to a framed cottage, ready for the trusses, in 8 days. We worked together well, we learned and had fun at it. We had 4 rain days during this project, where we did projects indoors.
The others did all kinds of projects from painting to peeling potatoes. The long list of projects we received when we arrived 3 weeks ago is finished. The cottage will continue for those here next month along with another list. We enjoyed meeting up in Houlton for some great Chinese Food last week. Canada is just across the Grand Lake, and it is beautiful here. We will be leaving on Monday with many projects done and many new friends and memories. Check out the photo album. Monday we start our adventure filling in the 18 missing states on our map. Stay tuned and have a great day.
