North Platte’s Cody Park Railroad Display is home to the Union Pacific Museum & Depot Display. This has 2 Union Pacific engines on display, one steam and one diesel. These are not the typical steam engine you would see in a park in rural America. The Steam Locomotive is Union Pacific Challenger # 3977. It is one of only two Challenger’s that survived. You can go inside and sit in the drivers seat. Then go back and walk through some train cars, including a mail car and Caboose. Next to it is Union Pacific Centennial #6922. This Diesel is one of 47 built. These are the biggest Diesel engines ever built and was just short of 100 feet long. They also have a restored Depot you can check out. It is a neat Museum and I am glad we went by and checked it out. Check out more pictures here.
